RCREEE participates in the Launch of the UfM REEE Platform

The Union for the Mediterranean and the European Commission launched the UfM Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Platform (REEE) at the 22nd Conference of Parties in Marrakesh (COP22). The platform aims to enforce the progressive deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures, discuss energy policy objectives, as well as identify and implement joint initiatives in order to foster socio-economic development in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

The platform is an initiative led by RCREEE, MEDENER and RES4MED under the umbrella of the UfM and EC. The ultimate goal is to ensure access to affordable and reliable modern energy services for all member state citizens and businesses.

During his keynote address, Miguel Arias Cañete, Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, EU, stated “The EU’s vision for a clean energy transition is one where the decarbonization challenge is turned into an opportunity for the modernization and the competitiveness of our economy”.

The UfM is currently composed of 25 EU members and 15 Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries. The launch of the REEE Platform implies a significant step forward in the consolidation of the path towards the mitigation and adaptation to climate change in the Euro-Mediterranean region.
