Regional Seminar on “Energy Efficiency Indicators in the Arab Countries in the Mediterranean Neighborhood”

On 29th of November 2012, RCREEE organized in close cooperation with the League of Arab States (LAS) and the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) a regional seminar, held in Cairo, to present the results of the study performed on the “Energy Efficiency indicators in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Countries”.
The study was conducted jointly by the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), Plan Bleu and with the support of EU-MED-ENECII. It provided a set of indicators to serve the decision makers in supporting and assessing energy efficiency policy development in their countries.
The Energy Indicators are considered the cornerstone for the development of National Energy Efficiency Action Plans (NEEAPs) that are part of the Arab Electricity Efficiency Guideline. This guideline was adopted by the Council of the Arab Ministers of Electricity of the League of Arab States end of 2010 and requests the Arab countries to design and implement energy efficiency policies. The study ended out with 10 national reports related to: Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Yemen as well as with a regional report presenting a benchmark of the energy situation between RCREEE member states for the period 2003-2009.
At the closure of the seminar; a recommendations paper was prepared  by the participants as guidance for further steps providing the project a wider dimension.
