Energy Efficiency Platform for the Arab Region

The meeting take place between Monday, 20 June 2022, and Wednesday, 22 June 2022. The meeting focused on the strategic discussions, technical inputs, and exchange among peers. The meeting included the following topics;

  • Kick-off of the Annual Meeting and strategic discussion: What role can EE play in the Post-COVID19 recovery process.
  • Energy Performance Indicators for Benchmarking and Monitoring
  • Lessons from BUILD_ME: How to develop a baseline for the building sector.
  • The potential of district cooling to increase energy efficiency
  • Closing of the Annual Meeting

Session 2: Energy Performance Indicators for Benchmarking and Monitoring

This session focusing the role that energy performance indicators play for benchmarking and monitoring and how this is a major part for a through implementation of energy efficiency measures. Ökotec, one of the leading consultancies in this field, has implemented such methodologies in various environments and supported with the development of accompanying frameworks.

Session 3: Lessons from BUILD_ME: How to develop a baseline for the building sector.

The team of Guidehouse’s BUILD_ME project presented how they developed a baseline for the increase of energy efficiency in the building sector, address some of the challenges that came up in the different countries in the project portfolio and gave some examples.

Session 4: The potential of district cooling to increase energy efficiency

Countries in the Arab region will be increasingly affected by climate change and rising temperatures, resulting in an increased demand for sustainable cooling solution. This session look at the potential for district cooling as an energy efficient (and more resilient) way to provide cooling and also talk about examples from the region.
