RCREEE signs a new cooperation agreement with the Egyptian Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities

Encouraging investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency applications in the construction sector

Cairo, Egypt- January 10, 2019: Aiming to conserving natural resources while protecting the environment, RCREEE Executive Director, Dr. Ahmed Badr and First Undersecretary of the Ministry of Housing and Head of Construction and External Relations, Eng. Mohamed Hesham Darwish, signed a new cooperation agreement. The agreement facilitates the two parties’ efforts in research, capacity development and technical assistance for renewable energy and energy efficiency applications in the construction sector.

Accordingly, RCREEE will provide technical support through its experts to the Ministry’s team in the areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency in the construction sector. The two parties will also jointly undertake funded projects. Besides, the agreement encourages cooperation with all relevant national stakeholders to develop, implement and follow up policies, strategies and action plans for renewable energy and energy efficiency applications in the construction sector in line with Egypt’s priorities.

This agreement reflects RCREEE and the Ministry efforts to encourage private sector investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in the construction sector in Egypt. The topic gained a lot of attention specially that the use of energy in the construction sector in Egypt represents about 40% of the total electricity consumed locally. In addition, the demand for energy in the construction sector is expected to increase by 50% by 2050 as population growth and rapid growth in purchasing power.
