RCREEE supports 1st Technical Meeting on “Guidelines for Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS), Energy Labelling and Eco-Design at the Continental Level”
October 12, 2018- Cairo, Egypt: The African Union Commission (AUC) in collaboration with the European Union Technical Assistance Facility (EU TAF) organized the 1st Technical Meeting of the “Guidelines for Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS), Energy Labelling and Eco-Design at the Continental Level (Assignment ES-0134)” assignment. The Two-day meeting was organized with the support of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE).
In his presentation, RCREEE planning director, Eng. Ashraf Kraidy explained the main initiatives and lessons learnt in MEPS & labelling in African Regional Communities. He confirmed that " Energy Efficiency Labels and Standards for home appliances is one of the most applicable projects to be implemented regionally. The regional centers should play a major role on creating solid ground for such a project. The support from EU is essential to drive these regional efforts"
Besides, a stakeholder consultation technical meeting took place with more than 20 representatives from the African Union Commission, the European Commission, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional bodies and centers, private sector players and development partners from across the African continent.
The meeting facilitated stakeholder consultations, dialogue and validation of the Project Implementation Plan and helped developing a draft layout of Guidelines for MEPS and Labels for selected appliances in Africa. It supported the preparation and development of national roadmaps for the implementation of MEPS and Labelling Programs. RCREEE Senior Sustainable Energy Expert, Ms. Sara Ibrahim Elhag, Senior Planning & Development Specialist, Ms. Iliyana Arnaudova and PA-CEMP & SHAMCI Project Coordinator, Eng. Khalid Salmi attended and activly particiated at the meeting.
