RCREEE Helps Building Arab Policy Makers’ Capacity in Designing NREAPs in Spain

In collaboration between the League of Arab States (LAS), the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the Euro-Arab Foundation, a five days training course on “The Design and Implementation of Renewable Energy Action Plans” was successfully organized in Granada, Spain, from 8 to 12 December 2014.

The training course focused on the design and implementation of National Renewable Energy Action Plans (NREAPs) to raise Arab experts’ skills and knowledge, and to enable accelerated adoption of renewable energy strategies at the regional level.

RCREEE team presented the NREAP template and ways of using it.  The workshop also introduced concepts of planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of NREAPs’ associated measures and tools.

With the support of German Development Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH, experiences and best practices based on European RE actions plans were presented and analyzed showing in depth their strength and weaknesses and their impact on RE deployment.

This training course is one of the activities designed to successfully implement the Pan-Arab Renewable Energy Strategy 2030, adopted by the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in January 2013.
