RCREEE Organizes Solar Technologies Workshop in Germany

Many engineers and decision makers in the Middle East are well aware of the theoretical Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and Photovoltaic (PV) project planning. However they usually lack the practical knowledge and experience.

Thus, within the framework of the capacity development strategy of the Regional Center of renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), a four day training course focusing on solar technologies was held from 1 to 4 December 2014, in Cologne, Germany. The course was organized in cooperation with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and enerMENA project.

The main objective of this professional CSP and PV project planning course was to introduce local engineers and decision makers to the special and typical requirements of the planning and implementation of CSP and PV power plants. The course also aimed to share experiences and know-how from international experts in the solar technologies field.

The course covered advanced concepts related to different solar technologies, site and solar assessment. A description for the typical structure and different phases of CSP and PV project development processes and defining economic viability were also presented.

Five of RCREEE member states which are: Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Mauritania and Lebanon participated in the event and had the opportunity to visit the solar test and demonstration power plant, Jülich, a 1.5 MW tower solar plant managed by DLR.

RCREEE capacity development strategy aims to raise the knowledge and expertise of the Arab regional experts to ensure a successful implementation of solar projects and programs.
