National Cooling Action Plans (NCAPs)
(NCAPs) are an important tool to assist countries in identifying pathways to integrate comprehensive action to reduce energy related emissions from cooling aligned with plans related to emissions from refrigerant transition. They also offer an opportunity for a country to consider how to improve access to cooling and address additional SDGs. To date, there have been many different approaches to developing NCAPs ranging from emerging economies like China and India to small climate vulnerable countries like Trinidad and Tobago or Rwanda.

The Regional Technical Advisory Group for NCAP in the MENA Region
The inaugural meeting of the Regional Technical Advisory Group for NCAP in the MENA Region, held on January 16th, marked the official formation of the committee and served as a crucial first step in regional collaboration. The primary focus of this initial session was to establish a shared understanding of the current cooling landscape within the Middle East and North Africa. Participants engaged in a valuable exchange of knowledge and insights, identifying key challenges and highlighting significant opportunities for advancing cooling technologies and sustainable practices across the region. Furthermore, the meeting provided a platform to review the progress in developing a comprehensive regional framework and methodology that will guide the formulation of individual National Cooling Action Plans (NCAPs) by member states. The collaborative spirit and the expertise shared during this foundational meeting have established a strong basis for future discussions and actions aimed at achieving enhanced cooling efficiency and long-term sustainability throughout the MENA region.
