RCREEE and OFID further expand their partnership support to Arab Sustainable Energy Young Professionals

Vienna, Austria- November 2016, The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) approved a larger grant in support of the Arab Program for Sustainable Energy Youth (APSEY). OFID Director-General, Mr. Suleiman Al-Herbish and RCREEE Executive Director, Ahmed Badr signed the new grant agreement on November 8, 2016 at OFID headquarters.

The new grant will support Arab Program for Sustainable Energy Youth (APSEY) initiated by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE). It aims to boost technical and operational capacities of young graduates in engineering, energy economics and policy from the Arab region who are interested in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

OFID new grant supports applicants from Yemen, Sudan, Palestine, Djibouti, Mauritania and Syria aspiring to work in the renewable energy and energy efficiency fields till 2018. During their internship, selected candidates gain a broad hands-on experience in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and regional cooperation fields.

“Since its launch in 2012, APSEY Program has been hosting 12 interns annually. We feel APSEY can further equip young professionals to support Arab countries in planning and implementing renewable energy and energy efficiency plans and achieve sustainable energy targets.” says APSEY program manager, Mrs. Noha Gamal. “OFID grant rewards our efforts in the region and fosters RCREEE capacity building activities in sustainable energy”.

“We strongly believe in APSEY programs as an essential tool to support Arab professional in the field of Sustainable Energy”, said Director-General, Mr. Suleiman Al-Herbish of OFID.

“APSEY one of RCREEE’s flagship programs aiming to achieve one of RCREEE key mandates with the support of the League of Arab States. It’s a milestone in assisting the member states reach SE4ALL initiative objectives especially increasing the access to modern energy services,” says Ahmed Badr, RCREEE Executive Director”

Notably, APSEY recruits 12 interns every year on two rounds for a hands-on experience in RCREEE’s projects, operational activities, technical assistance, co-financing new business models, inter-governmental policy dialogues, and other related activities. The opportunity covers full travel and accommodation expenses in Cairo in addition to a monthly salary.
