APSEY: 5 Years Running and Nearing 60 Participants

Cairo, 25 July 2018. The Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) is delighted to welcome on board seven new interns, as part of the Arab Program for Sustainable Energy Youth (APSEY). Hailing from six different member states, namely, Egypt, Djibouti, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, and Tunisia, the young renewable energy enthusiasts will be spending six months at RCREEE, where they will have the opportunity to learn and develop sustainable energy knowledge as well as gain hand-on experience through working with leading technical experts from the region.

The seven young talents come to RCREEE with strong academic backgrounds in engineering; specializations in alternative energy and green technologies; and significant entrepreneurial experience in a range of related fields. The RCREEE Secretariat looks forward to working with them over the coming months and having them actively contribute to the organization’s many and exciting projects.

First launched in 2013, and held biannually since, APSEY is now in its tenth edition. The call for the second batch for 2018, announced in March, was met with great interest, attracting well over 900 applications in just under a month. As always, the selection process proved difficult given the massive response and the high quality of applications received from RCREEE member states.

To date, around 60 youth from RCREEE member states have successfully completed the internship program. Following their intense six-month internships, program graduates usually go on to occupy prominent and influential positions in the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency fields.

APSEY is co-financed by OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID). OFID support for APSEY started in 2014 and was extended in September of 2016 for interns from Yemen, Sudan, Palestine, Djibouti, Mauritania and Syria.
