New cooperation agreement to promote active turbine management in the Gulf of Suez region

Cairo, Egypt – 8 January 2019; RCREEE Executive Director, Dr. Ahmed Badr and the Chairman of the Egyptian Company for Electricity Transmission Mr. Gamal Abdel Rahim signed a cooperation agreement on the management and implementation of Active Turbin Management program (monitor migratory birds and wind turbines shut down upon request) for private sector wind power plants in the Gulf of Suez and Jebel el Zayt region.
The agreement provides a framework for the protection of migratory birds, especially biodiversity and the environment in general, and the effective management of wind turbine turbines for private sector investors in the Gulf of Suez region.
RCREEE will carry out a series of practical activities to achieve the environmental requirements of investors according to local and international standards and overcome the obstacles and difficulties that can hinder investments in wind energy in Egypt.
ATMP project aims at protecting migratory birds and increasing the electrical productivity of wind power stations. This comes in answet to the studies that have shown the possibility of significant and influential impacts of wind turbines on migratory birds. The Gulf of Suez is located on one of the important routs of migratory birds. The project also contributes to the implementation of Egypt’s international decisions in line with the Paris Climate agreement,
The signing ceremony was attended by the CFO of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud El-Sisi, and Egyptian Company for Electricity Transmission studies department official Eng. Khaled Abdel-Karim. Also, the Head of the Studies and Projects Sector Mrs. Lamia Yousef and Head of Private Sector Sector Eng. Iman Rashad attended the ceremny along with Eng. Ahmed Khalil, RCREEE Environmental Expert in Environmental.
