TERMS OF REFERENCE UNDER INTERNSHIP AGREEMENT

Title: Sustainable Energy Intern (two categories)
Location: RCREEE Secretariat, Cairo, Egypt
Duration: 6 months (March 2025 – August 2025)
Reporting to: Assigned Mentor and Program Coordinator
Countries: RCREEE Member states

Background

The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) is an intergovernmental organization with diplomatic status that aims to enable and increase the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency practices across pan-Arab countries. RCREEE is the official technical arm institution of both League of Arab State – Energy Department and Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity (AMCE).

RCREEE collaborates with governments, international organizations, international financial institutions, and the private sector through various partnerships to initiate and guide discussions on clean energy policies, strategies, and technologies. This includes facilitating renewable energy investment platforms and capacity-building efforts aimed at enhancing the Arab states’ sustainable energy transition.

With its 17 Membre states, RCREEE strives to lead renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives and expertise in all Arab countries based on a strategic plan approved by its Board of Trustees. RCREEE Secretariat has several multidisciplinary teams across Sustainable Energy and Climate Action sub-sectors with multicultural teams diversified across Arab and International professionals.

The RCREEE implements a regional internship program, “Empowering Youth for Sustainable Energy Development” (EYSED). This program equips young talents from RCREEE member states with the skills, knowledge, and professional experience to contribute to the sustainable energy sector in the MENA region.

The program aligns with RCREEE’s mission to drive the energy transition and supports regional efforts for youth empowerment, gender equality, and sustainable development.

Objectives of the Internship

The internship aims to:

  1. Enhance technical and professional skills in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
  2. Equip interns with expertise in sustainable energy research, policy design, project management, and business soft skills.
  3. Foster cross-border knowledge exchange and south-south cooperation within the sustainable energy sector.
  4. Promote gender equality by ensuring 50% female participation.
  5. Prepare interns for impactful roles in sustainable energy fields.

Scope of Work

The interns will be engaged in a range of activities, including:

  1. Orientation and Capacity Building
  • Introduction to RCREEE’s vision, mission, projects, and structure.
  • Technical orientation on sustainable energy practices and tools.
  1. Project Participation
  • Integration into ongoing RCREEE regional projects and GN-SEC initiatives.
  • Participation in workshops, conferences, and forums related to sustainable energy.
  • Active involvement in south-south knowledge-sharing sessions.
  1. Knowledge Management
  • Contribution to RCREEE’s communication and knowledge management efforts, including joint press releases, social media campaigns, and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Documentation of knowledge exchange events and preparation of meeting minutes.

Qualifications and Eligibility

The program invites applications that match one of the two following internship categories:

Intern category 1 (EYSED Technical): Low carbon and climate resilient technologies, climate change mitigation and/or adaptation, development studies and/or climate finance, economics, international relations, business administration.

Intern category 2 (EYSED Communication and Graphic Design): journalism, graphic design, communications, marketing, business administration, management, development studies, economics, international relations or climate change mitigation, finance and/or adaptation.

Relevant for both categories:

  • Demonstrated interest in sustainable energy and regional cooperation
  • Excellent written & oral communication and analytical skills.
  • Commitment to the full duration of the internship.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English; Arabic; French is a plus.
  • Age: Minimum 20 years on the first day of the internship.
  • Enrollment status: TBD

Selection Process

  2. Screening: Shortlisting based on eligibility and qualifications.
  3. Assessment: Evaluation of technical skills through written tests or assessments.
  4. Interview: Virtual or in-person interviews to finalize selection.
