Press Release: Regional Workshop on: Best Practices on Implementing National Cooling Action Plans

The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Energy Department of the League of Arab States, organized a regional workshop titled: “Best Practices on How to Implement National Cooling Action Plans (NCAP).”

The workshop, held on October 21, 2025, at the Hilton Cairo hotel, was attended by over fifty experts and participants specializing in cooling from the energy and environment ministries of various Arab countries. Representatives from Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco, Djibouti, Libya, Qatar, Bahrain, and Yemen attended in person, while representatives from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Mauritania joined remotely. The workshop aimed to develop a comprehensive regional methodology for preparing NCAPs tailored to the needs of the MENA region.

The project is expected to enhance energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote environmentally friendly cooling technologies. Activities include forming a Regional Technical Advisory Group for cooling to coordinate information exchange, support the establishment of national cooling committees in each country, guide national priorities, and represent the project in relevant meetings and workshops.

During the workshop, global NCAP methodologies were reviewed, specialized papers were presented, and experiences from Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan on developing national cooling plans were shared, providing valuable lessons and insights.
