Energy Efficiency Platform for the Arab region Workstream “Financing of innovative Energy Efficiency Instruments”

The League of Arab States (Energy Department), the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) project DIAPOL-CE (commissioned by the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety) organized the 2nd meeting of the financing workstream focusing on Super ESCOs.

The session aimed to introduce participants to the concept of a Super ESCO and showcase experiences from existing Super ESCOs in the region.

A Super energy service company (ESCO) or Super ESCO is an entity that is setup to function as an ESCO to support the public sector implement energy efficiency projects. Super ESCOs can be very effective for the upscaling of EE services and the promotion of ESCOs while providing capacity building and support project development and can help to overcome market entrance barriers.

The proposed panel discussed experiences from the setup of Super ESCOs and how the setup and the implementation has worked.
