LAS, RCREEE and GIZ RE-ACTIVATE Launch the First Regional Conference on Decentralized Renewable Energy solutions, Discuss Solar Pumping in the Arab Region and Kick-off a Study on the Socio -Economic Impacts of RE and EE in Egypt

The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) in cooperation with the League of Arab States (LAS) and the regional GIZ project Promoting employment through renewable energy and energy efficiency in the Middle East and North Africa (RE-ACTIVATE) organized 3 events on 22, 23 and 24 May in Cairo.

The Regional Conference on “Decentralized Renewable Energy Solutions in the MENA Region: A Driver of Local Value and Job Creation” was scheduled on 22 May 2017.

The conference aimed at presenting the Decentralized Renewable Energy (DRE) solutions, which are currently at the forefront of technological and industrial development, and how they contribute to energy security and socio-economic development in key developing and emerging countries in the region and worldwide. In addition, it discussed international and regional benchmarks and best practices in this field and share experiences on appropriate solutions that can maximize the socio-economic benefits of DRE solutions in the Arab Region.

In addition, RCREEE, LAS and RE-ACTIVATE organized an Expert Workshop on “Solar Pumping: An Emerging Market and a Major Driver for Sustainable Energy and Jobs” on 23 May 2017

The workshop introduced the main available solar pumping technologies, highlight present and likely future trends from a technology and financial perspective. It introduced the RCREEE/RE-ACTIVATE draft study “Market Assessment of Solar Pumping in Egypt”.

Moreover, the workshop on ”The Socio -Economic impacts of RE and EE in Egypt: Local Value, Employment and Capacity Building was held on 24 May 2017.
This workshop is considered the First stakeholder workshop on modeling and measurement of the local value and employment and is the kick-off meeting of the study focusing on the local context and financed by GIZ RE-Activate project through its collaboration with RCREEE. The workshop presented the different approaches for the estimation of economic effects from RE and EE, explore international and regional benchmarks.
