Banque du Caire Green Finance Programme
The Project focuses on refinancing sub-loans to SMEs, midcap, and corporate entities with an emphasis on enhancing energy efficiency (EE). This encompasses demand side renewable energy (RE), resource efficiency (REF), EE, circular economy practices, and climate smart agri-financing investments through direct lending.
Under the framework of Financial Cooperation (FC) between the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Project will be funded through a Loan from the FC to the Central Bank of Egypt. This funding will subsequently be allocated to Banque du Caire (BdC) Referred to as the "Energy Efficiency II – Phase II credit line," the Project will also include grant, which encompasses technical assistance (TA) to support project implementation, as well as financing for cash-back mechanisms that provide incentives to projects demonstrating significant energy efficiency improvements, including demand-side renewable energy (RE), resource efficiency (REF), energy efficiency (EE), circular economy practices, and climate-smart agri-financing investments.
The primary objective of the Project is to enable companies across diverse sectors to utilize concessional credit access for investments in energy-efficient machinery, equipment, and production processes. This shall result in a significant reduction of resource consumption, energy usage, and associated CO2 emissions by at least 20% across the portfolio, contributing to a sustainable and balanced energy usage in Egypt.
