Regional workshop discusses renewable energy and energy efficiency evaluation and development in the MENA region
The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the League of Arab States (LAS) in cooperation with the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) in the Kingdom of Bahrain organized a workshop on “Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Evaluation and Monitoring Methodology”. The workshop was held from 8th to the 10th of January 2018, in Manama, Bahrain.
The workshop follows the decision of the Arab Ministerial Council of Electricity in its request to the Arab countries to develop their renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) national action plans. In addition to the preparation of RE and EE development reports according to the template developed by RCREEE and the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ).
The workshop was attended by renewable energy and energy efficiency experts of the MENA region and discussed the Arab Strategy for Sustainable Energy and its evaluation methodologies. During the workshop, RE and EE development reports in Jordan, Bahrain, Sudan, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt, Mauritania and Saudi Arabia were presented which showed the remarkable development countries have achieved in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency during 2017.
Finally, the workshop highlighted the need to submit the annual RE & EE evaluation reports and follow up to the League of Arab States Energy Department, in accordance with the decisions of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity.
