April 25, 2020Egypt represents the region’s most populated energy market and is the largest oil and gas consumer in the continent. Egypt is also an important non-OPEC fossil fuel producer and plays a vital role in international energy trade. The country is facing rapidly growing energy demand due to population growth, economic expansion and increased industrial output, among many factors. The government aims to diversify the energy mix in favor of renewable energy resources and has set a target to achieve 42% of generated electricity from renewable energy by 2035. Also, cumulative energy efficiency targets have been set for 5%, as well as a NEEAP that has been adopted.
