RCREEE participates at IRENA FlexTool Training for the MENA Region
On 30 June 2020: Aiming to facilitate the usage of IRENA FlexTool in the context of the ongoing initiatives in the region, the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) coorganized IRENA FlexTool training for Middle East and North Africa Region (MENA).
During the opening session, Eng. Zoheir Hamedi, IRENA Regional Programme Officer-Country Engagement and Partnerships, Eng. Jamila Matar, Head of Energy Department at League of Arab States and Dr. Maged Mahmoud, RCREEE Acting Executive Director welcomed the attendees and shed the light on different projects and initiatives in the MENA region and the importance of IRENA FlexTool.
Additionally, RCREEE Senior Sustainable Energy Expert, Eng. Rim Boukhchina presented the renewable energy deployment and planning challenges in the Arab Region during the first session on “Power sector planning in Arab countries the importance of a power system flexibility assessment”.
Thanks to this training, experts from the ministries of energy and national utilities from 13 MENA countries are now able to run customs simulations with the tool and model different flexibility options in their national power systems.
